| Message: | | I am currently experiencing the same exact issue on my 2003 M3. Random occurences of no start. All electronics work, but starter will not engage. Happens at random times. It's a manual, so I can roll start it. Roll start it, turn it off, and it will immediately start up.
Stealer said it was "probably" a bad battery, but couldn't tell for sure until they could get it to fail, which, of course, it would not while in their posession. One $98 diagnostic fee (for what?) and $200 for installing a battery (ouch) and two weeks later the same thing starts happening again.
This time the Stealer had the car for a week. Finally got it to fail and they said they traced it to the starter. Quoted another $98 diagnostic fee and $900 to replace the starter, plus tax. I called my other local foreign car specialist and he quoted $450 to replace starter, parts labor and tax included. Told the dealer this and he said best he could do was $700. I said no thanks. Asked them to give me my car back, and not to charge the second $98 diagnostic fee since they screwed up the first one and overcharged me for the battery, and they agreed. Will never go back to the dealer after the prepaid maintenance ends in March.
My other guy has it now. Hopefully the starter change fixes it.
