I had the car in to Fletcher BMW, now Asheville BMW 3 times for the starting problem. The last time they kept the car 9 days and reloaded the SMG firmware. Two days later it failed to start in the garage.
I had previously been to Century BMS, Greenville, SC, where I bot the car and they felt it was the ignition switch. So, I had the truck take to Century and they ordered a new ignition switch. While there and they were waiting for the new part, they continued to start and drive the car pretty much every day. Finally, it failed for them. Their test said it not only needed a new ignition switch but the electronic ignition component that recognizes the key. They ordered the part and after a week or the part was installed and I picked it up. About 2 weeks later it failed to start again and I thought it was the battery, charged it up (battery was 5 months old,) and drove it several times, when again it failed to start.
Had the truck take it back to Century BMW and they found that the starter had failed. Replaced the starter, about 2 months ago and so far so good.
However, I didn't drive the car but 200 miles in 3 months as it was always in the shop. Car only has 41k, and I plan on keeping it indefinitely.
What a circle jerk. Fletcher BMW has lost my business forever.
