| Message: | | I have had this problem for the past three months. After extensive research, I can tell you the problem is the Hydrolic Fluid Temp Sensor mounted on the SMG's Hydrolic Control Unit. I got my answer from BMW of Munich because two of the local BMW Service Centers (one of which I used to work at) couldn't diagnose the problem. Rest assure, this is NOT the hood pin switches, as some people tend to blame it on. Although they haven't got back to me on why the sensor prematurely partially failed, I can save you the hope and tell you that the sensor can not be replaced by itself, for it is all one unit. Sorry to bring you the bad news, but the replacement comes in at just under $3,000 for a new HCU. I can tell you that the problem will NOT happen UNLESS the light is on. This problem has been bothering me literally every day for the past three months, and I literally made a book about the way the SMG system works for my own resources. PLEASE email me if you need anything, or if you find anything else at Dgadude@verizon.net. I drive a 2002 E46 M3 SMG with 70k on it and have the EXACT same problem. Thanks and good luck to you!
