Brakes sticking - advice needed please! (102 views) (169 thread views)
Message: Hello

I have an 87 e28 and I have occasional trouble with sticking brakes. The brakes tend to stick when sat in heavy traffic – even if the brakes are cool! I can be sat in traffic for a few minutes then they stick – despite the fact I have not been braking!

This used to be occasional and sporadic and has been difficult to track down. It is however becoming more regular, so hopefully it should become easier to find the problem.

Once the car was sticking when I arrived home, and on jacking the car up I found all wheels were equally stuck! All callipers have been recently rebuilt so I am pretty sure they aren’t related. I have also lubricated the brake linkage but will check again anyway.

I have a suspicion it will be the master cylinder or servo. Could it be the latter? And how would I find out which it is? Would it be right that this is happening whilst sitting in traffic?! Could something be expanding (and sticking) in the engine bay whilst sat in traffic? I can drive 100 miles without anything happening, until of course I end up waiting in traffic!

Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Philip
